TEAM STROMMEN READY FOR REVENGE AGAINST ROA

6th November 2009

Saturday's Norway Cup Final will be Team Strommen's third in 3 years  and Røa's fourth in 6 years. Since 2004, the Roa Team dubbed the "Dynamite Girls" has won four Toppserien League titles and the Norway Cup three times. In tomorrow's Cup Final in the Telenor Arena the Roa team from Oslo-west has the chance to win the League-Cup Double for the second year running. However, Team Strommen has other ideas. The 2009 Norway Cup Finals will give Team Strommen a chance for redemption. Their 3 - 1 loss against Roa last year was a bitter experience and this year there is a big yearning in the team for revenge.

"There is always motivation in a Norway Cup Final, but there will be a little extra after this season after our loss last year," said the skipper Lene Storløkken. The Team Strommen captain has no wish to lose another final. "I have only ever lost these final games, and I know there is a big difference between losing and winning."

The Team Strommen skipper says all the players in the team are waiting for the moment they can get to work. "We are ready now. We have trained hard and well this last week, and with two wins to close out the season there is a good feeling in the team," she said.

Meanwhile, Marie Knutsen, the Roa captain says that "the Norway Cup Finals have been amongst the most fun games I have played in." Team Strømmen are our opponents this year, just like last year. On that occasion, the score ended with a 3-1 win to Røa." Knutsen thinks it helps the Roa team to have won before. "We have the experience of winning the Cup finals and it is good to know we have that behind us. It's a great feeling to win the Cup Final, and I don't want any different experience this time."

It was not only the Team Strømmen's senior women's team which lost last year's Cup Final. The Team Strommen junior women also lost last year, but two weeks ago, they raised their game to win 2-0 against Trondheims-Ørn juniors and take the 2009 Junior Cup.  "They have provided us with inspiration; it's great that they won this year and we must follow their example,"  says midfield player Storløkken. "The Cup Final is the biggest match we can play in Norway, so it means a lot. We are looking forward to the event," she said.

In the 2009 Toppserien League, Team Strømmen drew 1-1 playing away at Røa, and they lost 0-3 at home. In 2008, they were the only team to take three points from the Roa "Dynamite Girls."  Storløkken thinks this year's match will be different - a tight and evenly matched game between two teams who want to play attacking football. "I hope it will be an entertaining match to watch and showcase women's football, " said Storløkken.

At Thursday's team practice Team Strømmen's veteran goalkeeper looked like she is in great shape and can play the full 90minutes on Saturday if needed. Former coach and Team Strommen icon Hege Riise was also at the practice and several other Team Strømmen former players.

Marie Knutsen thinks it will be a hard match for Roa. "We are in a tough schedule and Team Strømmen is a good team that will be well prepared. We know them well and they know us - two teams who are geared up to beat each other. It will be tough." Roa Coach Geir Nordby agrees. "It will be tough physically and mentally."

Roa player Camilla Huse was a Cup winner with Kolbotn in 2007 and now she has another chance in her first season at Røa. She thinks that the Cup Final is what all players in Norway dream of. "It's the biggest event for us. The last league matches were important but we don't often experience the feelings that go with a Cup Final."

Team Strommen coach Janne Jansson thinks "We will have heavy pressure from them in the first 20 minutes or so, and we will try to counterattack. After the first goal comes, it will be a more open game."  Jansson was the coach when Team Strommen lost to Asker in the finals in 2005. On that occasion the score was 0-0 after 90 minutes. But in overtime, team Strommen gave up four goals." That aside, the coach has a good feeling about Saturday's match, but he still feels butterflies in his stomach. "We always want to win against Røa whether it's friendly, in the league or in the Cup," he said.

Røa has a heavy playing schedule, but Jansson does not know if this will help or hinder his team. "Before Roa began this tough programme, I thought it would help us, but now they have performed well in both matches I think they are well into their preparation. Roa said they place the league and European Cup before the Norwegian championship, but I don't know about that, " he concluded. Last Saturday, Røa played to a 0-0 tie to win the League competition against Stabæk. On Wednesday it was another 0-0 tie against last year's finalists in the Champions League, Zvezda. On Saturday they have the Cup Final, and then they have to travel to Siberia for the return match against Zvezda next Wednesday.

Team Strommen wants revenge before they send Roa off to Siberia.
