This was a strong showing
by Team Strommen in an 8-0 win over Fortuna-Alesund today. The score could have been
many more.
The match started with the Team Strommen players looking a little rusty, and they allowed Fortuna some chances. The first danger
came after only a few minutes when they fired a hard shot on goal. Fortunately, Ingrid Bruserud
tipped the ball over the bar, or as Rhian puts it, "our fantastic goalie Ingrid
was back between the posts and made an amazing save to just push it wide."

Gradually Team Strommen established themselves and began to dictate the game. At the 21 minute mark, the scoring started. Strommen set up
a very good attack from deep, that reached Una Nwajei, and she put it safely
past the keeper. "After this, we were all over them. We took a
while to get our first goal, but then we scored some very good
goals."
Rhian tweaked her ankle early in the game and so she
decided to come off to keep healthy for the Cup Final. "I hate
having to sit on the sidelines. However, on this occasion, I
did enjoy the wonderful plays that the team worked. Some of the
goals we scored were pure power, but many of them were created
from deep and brought forward: Pretty soccer."
At 40 minutes, Lene Storløkken scored, and then at 45 minutes Team Strommen scored again from a well struck shot to the right corner of the goal
by Marita S. Lund. The half time score was 3 - 0.
In the second half, Team Strommen was even sharper. It only took 5 minutes, and then suddenly the score was 6-0. The goals came from Dekker, then
Una Nwajei again, and then Fortuna conceded an own goal. Team Strommen moved the ball well and the Fortuna team was not up to the pace and the
complexity of the attack. Dekker scored a further goal at the 61st min to take the score to 7-0.
With this wide margin of score came further substitutions - Diana Matheson
off for Nasra Abdullah at 55 minutes, and Anne Myren Stentsvedt for Eli Gulbrandsen at 72 minutes, Team Strommen relaxed a little and Fortuna had a renewed opportunity to create some attacks.
A Few of their players continued
the battle against all odds and they earned respect. However, the traffic was
still mainly one way, and at 89 minutes, Moe Wold took the score to 8-0. The game
could easily have been several goals more, but the final score stayed at 8 - 0.
Before the match, Fortuna had announced their intention to break the attendance record at ColorLine stadium for a European women's league match. So,
it was rather disappointing that despite all the hype and marketing efforts, only about 600 fans turned up.
Team Strommen ends the Toppserien league in fourth position, and now looks forward to the Norway Cup final next weekend.
Rhian says that "We now have a week to prepare for the Cup Finals on the 7th,
which is very exciting. The team is looking very good and I know that the game
is going to be a hard one." Strommen can expect Roa, the League
champions to be a much tougher opponent than the one they played today.
Rhian says that "D and I are getting ready for the big game not only by
preparing mentally, but by packing our bags. The Canada National camp starts in
Florida on the 3rd November, so we are going to have to fly out on early on the
8th November, immediately after the match, to catch up with them."
