RHIAN SOCCER JOURNALS

BACK TO WORK IN NORWAY    23rd September 2012

While many other members of the National Women's team were sitting on the top of a bus as they would their way through the centre of Toronto, Diana and I have returned to Norway and are back at work.

On Saturday 22nd September, our team, LSK Kvinner, top of the league, played the number two team in the Toppserein League: Stabaek. We beat them 2-1.

The pre-game was a little interesting when Diana and I were told that the referee for the game would be the same one who refereed our semi final Olympics match against the United States. I thought that perhaps our paths might cross again, but not so soon. We were refereed by Ms Pederson only three days after our arrival in Oslo. I wasn't expecting that.

However, the pre-game took a little turn for the stranger when my team's "pump up" video came on. It appears much of this involves the Unites States team's run to the gold medal in the London Olympics- awesome!!!! I think..... no, I really do believe that that a new video needs to be found for LSK. Diana agrees with me - the present one is not very motivating.

The match against Staebek was a tight one. They scored the first goal and kept the lead until we tied things up with a score at the end of the first half.

In the second half we had a player red carded with 25 minutes to play, but we still managed to score the winner with about 20 minutes to go. You will notice that there are very few comments about the referee and I intend to keep things this way.

Staebek had way more possession than we did, but we stayed strong and organized at the back and managed to take advantage of our opportunities. This was a huge win for us and LSK.

On Monday we start full training again and I am looking forward to actually getting to spend some time with my teammates. There are some defensive pattern "wrinkles" that need to be ironed out. I'm looking forward to getting back to work, and this LSK team has a ton of potential and it is going to be a crazy ride till the end of the season.
