RHIAN SOCCER JOURNALS

IT'S MONDAY;IT MUST BE SWEDEN      26th March 2012

Today has been a long travel day. Most flights to Europe are totally exhausting, but this one seemed especially harsh.  However, this may be partially due to my seat next to the reverberations of the world's loudest snorer.

On one side I had a really charming gentleman who, for the first time ever, gave me the armrest (an un unheard of concession from a male). On the other side of me I had the other a man wearing noise canceling earphones and snoring to wake the dead. All my national teammates around me on the plane seemed equally as annoyed as i was, so I know it wasn't just me being tired  - stupid snoring!

We arrived in Munich at 9:30 am and had less than an hour to board our flight to Copenhagen. I was looking forward to seeing a bit of the Danish capital as my father was born there and I have heard really good things about it. Unfortunately, after arrival, we just boarded straight onto a bus, and 25 minutes later, we had driven over the bridge to Sweden. There were a bunch (?) of wind turbines just off of the bridge, so it was really interesting to see renewable energy in action and I wish I knew more about them. They are huge.

Crossing the bridge also led to my first sighting of a sunken Swedish object. I saw two more during the day. I am not sure what the joke is, but the 911 emergency call center must get a kick out of tourists phoning to let them know about a boat in distress. Elsewhere I saw a half sunken house in one of Malmo's canals and finally, a submerged bicycle in the pond in the main square???? I have no idea what is going on here - is this some weird performance art project?

Once at the hotel, we were given an hour and a half to get some food into us and then we had a quick nap before heading out for a walk. We need to adjust as quickly as possible and part of doing this is to return to the circadian rhythms by getting out into the sun and not lying in bed too long.

Malmo seems like a beautiful and interesting city/. I am looking forard to getting to know it better while I am here. For the moment though I am heading to bed. I have lasted to 9:15 pm, so I am really proud of myself.
