FINAL FRIENDLY VS LA VIKINGS   15th December 2011

 

Canada pre-Olympic Qualifying Tournament camp wrapped up in Los Angeles today, following a match yesterday afternoon against the LA Vikings.

 

There have been 23 people in camp and everyone was given some minutes of playing time, so the game definitely suffered a little disjointedness from the ever changing formations and substitutions. This is not to take anything away from the LA Vikings who are a very good team. All of their team members are elite players and we knew that the match was not going to be easy for us.

 

In fact, the first half was pretty equal and we definitely needed to pick up our level of play for the second ha;f.

 

We did. Christina Julien came on in the second period and she scored three goals for us; congratulations to Christina on her hat trick. In factr, the whole team had better composure and understanding in the second half. We created some really nice movements.

 

Just as we knew, the match was a tough one, but we came out ahead 3:0. Congratulations and thanks to the LA Vikings on their performance and I hope we get the chance to play them again the next time we are down here in training camp.

Tomorrow morning, 115th December, we have a few meetings and then it is home for the holidays. Unlike most years, this Christmas of 2011falls right in the middle of a heavy training load in our periodization program.  I am looking forward to being home and with my family, but I am conscious of the work that has to be done so that we are as prepared as possible for January 2012 Olympic Qualifiers.
