TOPPSERIEN VICTORY OVER AMAZON 3rd June 2009
On Monday 2nd June, just four days after returning to Norway following the Canada USA match, we defeated Amazon Grimstad 4 - 2.
As a team, we didn't play all that well, but it felt good to get back to
winning ways. We secured the 3 points in the League and this is what matters
most at present. As our coach said at the end of the game, "sometimes you end up
having to earn a win, and work harder, than for others."

And, in Monday's game we DEFINITELY had to earn our points. I don't think it
helped our case that all our back four were carrying injuries, but we could
certainly have played much better than we did. Our starting center back, one of
our best players in my opinion, is out for the next few weeks, recovering from
keyhole knee surgery. Another center back went down in this game. The changes
affected us, because when you have an established back four who know each other
and who are comfortable together, you have a very strong situation. You can't
lose if the other team can't score!
The game ended 4-2, but the score does not reflect how hard Amazon Grimstad
worked and pushed us. I think we only scored our 3rd goal in the 80th
minute. Una, our Team Strommen forward scored a hat trick, a feat made even more
special for her as Amazon is her old Club. At the beginning of this season she
left them to come and play for us. It is always hard to play against old friends
so I was pleased for her that she did so well. I just hope there won't be any
bitterness, or hard feelings between her and her old friends.
This week has been an interesting one as D and I have started working in
downtown Oslo. I am enjoying getting away and doing something other than soccer.
We are even meeting new people. Mind you, it is still only our second day on the
job. We are enjoying the new experience, but talk to me in a week or two and
things may have changed drastically. Our next game is this weekend, away in
Bergen on the West coast - an airline flight away.
