RHIAN'S SOCCER JOURNALS:
TRONDHEIM TRIO
10th May 2009
I just arrived back from Trondheim this afternoon at 12noon, and i am exhausted. At least we defeated Trondheim by 3 goals to zero, and
this moves us to fourth place in the Topserrien League.
We took a flight from Oslo into Trondheim at 11:30am yesterday for our late afternoon 4:00 pm game. I think I must have forgotten how to
deal with such tight schedules. We packed our pre-game meals in our backpacks, flew the hour to the coast, took the bus to the field, then ate
lunch and killed time for 2 hours before we started preparations for game time.

My legs were quite heavy for a while. I think I must have forgotten how to deal with a busy schedule and limited time for warm-up and mental
preparation. Long gone are those days as a junior player, when we would drive 3 hours to a game, get dressed in the car, and then run straight
out onto the field. I must be getting soft.
The game against Trondheim, who were one ahead of us in the league going into this match, started out slowly. I was not the only Team
Strommen player suffering from heavy legs. However, we quickly took control of the game. Early on, Trondheim had some decent chances, but our
defense did well and they quickly stifled any dangerous situations. Our goalie also had a great game, coming out to make the big saves that
can often end up as game winners.
We scored our first goal at 23 minutes. It came from a throw deep down the left hand side of the field, which I took a touch from, before crossing
back to the far post. Una was there to put her body on the line and bundle it home. It was a brave goal from Una. She really had to throw herself at it.
She and Ida, our other forward for the game, worked their butts off all night, and they were a big factor in our victory,

The second goal was beyond weird. Una made a great run to the goal and as she did so, she managed to bundle over not only the goalie, but
also two defenders. There was no foul, rightly so, as she had the ball at her feet for the entire time. She is just that strong. When she did finally come
to a stop, there were four players on the ground, 3 from Trondheim and our Una. The net was wide open, and D to smashed the ball home. It was all
very much in slow motion and I couldn't stop shaking my head at the absurdity of it all.

The final goal came quickly after the start of the second half, when D made a great run down the right side of the field and crossed an amazing ball
through the 6 yard box. It looked very much like nobody was going to get on the end of it, and I was already breathing in deeply to harangue my sleeping
teammates in the middle of the pitch, when out of nowhere popped Cathrine Dekkerhus. She put the ball away at the back post. I don't know where that
girl was hiding, as I didn't see her AT ALL. But, good for her for being at the right place at the right time: Our 16 year old phenom.

After the match, we spent the night at a hotel in downtown Trondheim, then caught a flight back to Oslo this morning. It was a good and successful
trip, but also a tiring one. Fortunately, we have a week before our next match
versus Floya on 16th May 2009.
