RHIAN'S SOCCER JOURNALS:

TEAM STROMMEN REACHES FINALS OF NORWAY CUP 25 Sept 2008

Well, the good news after our match against Asker last Thursday is that Team Strommen is through to the Finals of the Norway Cup. We are going to the Cup finals as we defeated Asker by 5-2 .

Asker is in third, one place ahead of us in the Topserrien League table, so our large victory on Thursday was an upset. It has cemented our place in Norway's biggest tournament of the year. As a foreigner, I don't think I can still begin to grasp how big an event this actually is.

I did have some indication though, when I saw my team break down crying after the final whistle. Also, I did already have some idea of the importance of the Cup from three years ago, when I was last here in Oslo, and the Team made the finals.

The last time I was part of these Cup Finals we had an amazing four week run-up to the event. Now I feel fortunate to be in the same position again. However, the final score does not really reflect the match. It was a much tougher and tighter game than the score may suggest.

The Asker team is a strong one. Amy Vermeulen is on this team, so the fact we were able to win by three goals is just icing on the cake. I think it is important to mention though that Team Strommen was on fire. In one eight minute span during the match, we scored three of the most amazing goals I have ever seen. I mean they rivaled some of Sincy's shots.

Before this spell and three goals, the game was much closer. There is a wonderful feeling about being on a team that just cannot make a mistake or miss a shot. It is not so much fun being on the receiving end. Both D and I played well, and the Norwegians have given D a Scandinavian flavored name - Diana Mathesonen.

I am really looking forward to the build up and for the Norway Cup final on the 8th November which will be held at the Norwegian National Stadium. And, unlike the last time I was here three years ago, I can't wait to win the gold.
