ONE A DAY TRAINING                   23rd February 2012

Today was the first occasion of having only one training session a day. Don't tell the coach, but the day seemed a little slow as a result. So slow in fact that I was reading and actually forgot about our morning meeting. This was not a good moment for me, and I am still apologizing for it. A big thank you to Emily Zurrer who started the slow hand clap as I walked in: What a friend!

The England women's squad was out at the training field today, and it was good to see another team is here and preparing. It means that the tournament is now right around the corner. Our practice went well and it was again a lot of fun. We, as John would say, put in a good shift and I think we all got plenty out of it. At least I did. The practice ended with 45 minutes of a game, and everyone on our squad likes a good scrimmage.

I am trying to think about other happenings which I can tell you about, something funny or interesting, but I can't seem to think of anything. WE have settled into a routine. However,  I do find it intriguing how often certain players on our team get hit by the ball. I don't think I have ever met anyone who gets smashed with the ball as often as Carm does. She has a knack for being in the way. Thank goodness she is so tough. She barely breaks stride after being blitzed from 5 yards out. Anyone else would require some time on the ground. In fact, in a  men's premiership game the player might even need resuscitation!

After training we had our usual "icy" pool bath. We have discovered that the trick is to just to get in the water as fast as possible. Now, everyone bombs off the bus, runs to get our bags and take off clothes and then jogs with no hesitation into the pool. Yes we yell. Yes there is definitely some swearing. But the sooner you get in the water, the sooner you get out and there is no better feeling than finishing your eight minutes. To make the time go faster, the team usually sings and when I mention "the team," I really mean Erin and Des. Everyone else tries to sing, but they shouldn't! On the cards for me tonight are a physiotherapy session and some stretching: Good times.
